Comprehensive Assessments: formerly the Rule 25
Anyone who has ever had to find treatment for a loved one in the state of Minnesota knows — it all starts with the Comprehensive Assessment (formerly called a Rule 25).
I remember when a family member reached out for help and was told that the wait for his Rule 25 assessment would be two weeks. He was in crisis. He was ambivalent about getting help. He needed the system to move — now.
At this time, I was a person who had been in recovery for several years. I worked as a Licensed Alcohol and Drug Counselor at Hazelden Betty Ford. I was able to spur the system toward movement, but it wasn’t easy and it shouldn’t work that way. You shouldn’t have to know people to get effective care. You shouldn’t have to work within a system to make it make sense. We started YourPath with the goal of making access to care like assessments as easy to access as substances. And, as we all know, substances are pretty easy to access.
Today, at YourPath, we have decided to focus on immediate access to Comprehensive Assessments (what used to be called a Rule 25) because it is the first of many bureaucratic roadblocks that prevent people from getting timely access to critical services.
We have taken a process that can take weeks and turned it into something that takes hours. Here is how it works:
People can text us “assessment” at 612-712-6879
They fill out some forms on our HIPAA-compliant texting portal
They get scheduled for a virtual visit with a YourPath counselor to discuss options
They get connected with appropriate housing, medical, clinical and recovery support services
It’s truly that easy.
Throughout our careers, we have seen lots of programming and are experts in understanding the balance between what is recommended and what is reasonable. We hope that we can help you or the people you love with finding help. Please reach out if you need anything.
